2017 FUJIAN PROVINCIAL PEOPLE’S GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS IN FUJIAN

Y.B. Datuk Haji Julaihi bin Haji Narawi, Assistant Minister For Rural Economy (Coastal Area) And Fisheries Assistant Minister For Industrial Development (Investment And Promotion) announced that the Fujian Provincial Government, China has offered an opportunity to one Sarawakian to study for 1 year in Fujian Province, China through the award of “2017 Fujian Provincial People’s Government Scholarship Program for Foreign Students in Fujian”.

This scholarship program has started in 2013 and offered by the Foreign Affairs Office of Fujian Provincial People’s Government (Fujian FAO) and Fujian Provincial Department of Education (Fujian DOE) to foreign students to foster closer friendly exchanges between Fujian and other countries around the world and deeper understanding about the province.  The Program is open to students from Fujian’s sister provinces or states to study in institutions of higher education of the province.

        This is the result of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on 17 July 2017 between Sarawak, Malaysia and Fujian Province, China on mutual collaborations, particularly in the following areas: 

  1. Enhance economic and trade cooperation, especially on opportunities in investment and trade;
  2. Speed up facilities connectivity, particularly air and sea routes for business and social activities;
  3. Strengthen people-to-people exchanges by both the government and private sectors from both countries;
  4. Expand cultural and educational exchanges whereby Sarawak students can attend Chinese language courses in Fujian Province.

The Program for 2017 will start in September 2017 and will last till July 2018.  Interested personnel who fulfil the following criteria can apply to the Ministry: 

 

1. Recommended by governments of Fujian’s sister provinces or states;

2. Basic Chinese- or English-speaking skills;

3. Junior college degree or above;

4. Less than 45 years old.

 

Shortlisted applicants will be called for an interview.

The closing date to submit to this Ministry for endorsement is 31 March 2017
